Police dog nabs alleged break-in suspect

Windsor police arrested a break-and-enter suspect with the help of one of its K-9 officers.

Officers responded to Elsmere Avenue near Hanna Street East at around 1 a.m. Thursday, following a complaint about someone breaking into an unattached garage. Police were able to obtain a description of the suspect.

When officers descended on the area, the suspect was seen fleeing, according to Constable Talya Natyshak. Officers, along with Police Service Dog (PSD) Fuse, combed the neighbourhood and managed to locate the suspect hiding on a second-floor balcony. He was arrested without incident.

The 33-year-old Windsor man is charged with break-and-enter of a non-dwelling. The charge has not been proven in court.

Police are asking anyone who may have security camera footage to share to give them a call and be sure to report any suspicious behaviour immediately, as the call about the suspect was key to a quick arrest.

Anyone with information should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4350. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
