Windsor Police seize handgun from crashed vehicle

While investigating a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night, police in Windsor seized a handgun.

Now, a 26-year-old Leamington man faces a long list of weapons charges.

The vehicle went into a ditch on County Road 42 near Windsor's airport, but when officers arrived just after 6 p.m., the driver had fled on foot.

He was located close by, and during their investigation, officers realized the man had been drinking, so they arrested him.

It was while searching the vehicle they found a loaded handgun.

In addition to driving impaired and failing to remain at the scene of a collision, the suspect now faces seven weapons-related charges. They include possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.

If you have information that might help their investigation, you can call Windsor Police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4000 or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477. Tips can also be left online at www.catchcrooks.com.
