Windsor-Essex jobless rate falls in July, still highest in Canada

There was some good news and bad news as far as Windsor-Essex's unemployment rate was concerned in July.

According to the July 2021 figures released Friday morning by Statistics Canada, the jobless rate in the region fell to 11.1 per cent in July, a 0.7 percentage point drop from June's 11.8 per cent.

However, the unemployment rate for Windsor was still the highest among cities in Canada.

The Labour Force Participation Rate for the area fell in July as well, by 0.4 percentage points to 60.3 per cent.

The Windsor-Essex labour force was almost unchanged, with 300 jobs created. However, the number of people claiming jobless benefits fell in July by 1,400.

The national unemployment rate fell to 7.5 per cent in July, from June’s 7.8 per cent. In Ontario, the rate was 8.6 per cent in July, down from 8.9 per cent in June.
