WECHU reports 129 cases in three days

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex continues to climb at a rapid pace.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 129 new infections over the last three days. While most of the cases are still under investigation, 41 are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, 28 are community-acquired, and two are travel-related.

There are 260 active cases and 92 involve a variant of concern.

Windsor Regional Hospital is now reporting the vaccination status of patients in the hospital with COVID-19. Among the six hospitalized patients, four are unvaccinated.

To date, 77.4 per cent of eligible residents in Windsor-Essex have been partially vaccinated and 69.7 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the health unit, in partnership with the Community Response and Stabilization Team, will host a series of pop-up vaccination clinics in Leamington this week.

The clinics are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the Princess Centre at 33 Princess Street.  They are open to anyone 12 and older from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Those who go will not need to make an appointment or have a health card.
