Police charge two after cargo van stolen in downtown Windsor

Windsor police have laid charges against two people after a cargo van was reported stolen early Tuesday evening.

At around 6:35 p.m., officers were called downtown on Wyandotte Street near Dougall Avenue for a report of a brown cargo van that had been stolen. Police then began to search for a suspect described as a female, around 18-years-old wearing a white shirt and white shorts.

A short time later, police located the vehicle travelling southbound on Goyeau Street. Officers say the stolen van was speeding and as they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. In the interest of public safety, police say they chose not to initiate a pursuit.

Sometime around 7:30 p.m., officers found the stolen vehicle again on Glengarry Avenue near University Avenue. According to police, a female suspect was in the driver's seat accompanied by a male in the front passenger seat.

Officers arrested the pair without incident.

As a result, a 26-year-old Windsor woman has been charged with theft of a vehicle and dangerous operation. A 38-year-old Windsor man faces one charge of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
