WECHU reports 62 new cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 62 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Among the new ones, 16 are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, five are community-acquired, and two are connected to an outbreak. Case and contact management staff continue to investigate 39 of the new infections.

There are 527 active cases in the community, and 301 of them involve a variant of concern. The Delta variant is still the most prevalent variant in Windsor-Essex.

Local hospitals are treating 13 patients who have tested positive for the virus. Of those patients nine are unvaccinated and one is partially vaccinated. There are four people receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, and three of them are unvaccinated.

The health unit is monitoring 15 active outbreaks in the community. All of the current outbreaks involve the Delta variant.

To date, 79.2 per cent of all eligible Windsor-Essex residents have been partially vaccinated, and 72.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.
