The NDP candidate for Windsor-Tecumseh in the upcoming federal election stood beside the provincial party leader to promise better care for seniors.
Candidate Cheryl Hardcastle said the federal NDP has a plan to create national care standards for long-term care homes across the country.
"We're calling it the care guarantee because it is a guarantee of care for seniors and people living with disabilities, whether they are in their homes or in a long-term care facility," said Hardcastle.
The NDP has promised to develop national care standards with accountability measures, and to boost wages and support for long-term care workers.
Ontario NDP leader Andrew Horwath said they welcome these standards and look forward to working with the government on a federal level to make sure these standards are implemented in Ontario.
"The vast majority of Ontarians and Canadians believe profits do not belong in long-term care so we need to ensure that we take the profits out," Horwath said.
Hardcastle is running for the federal seat in Windsor-Tecumseh against Liberal incumbent Irek Kusmierczyk, Conservative candidate Kathy Borrelli, Victor Green of the People's Party of Canada, Laura Chesnik for the Marxist Lennist party, and Henry Oulevey of the Green Party.
The federal election is on September 20, 2021.
