Amherstburg class exposed to COVID-19

On the second day of class, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit has had to send home dozens of students from a school in Amherstburg after an exposure to COVID-19.

Students from Stella Maris Catholic Elementary School in Amherstburg were informed today that a confirmed case of COVID-19 was identified there. As a result, 57 students were sent home. There were 26 students from one class and another 31 students from a bus cohort.

The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow.

The school remains open. If parents have not been contacted by the health unit, their children have not been identified as close contacts and may continue to attend school.

The school board is reminding parents to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning and keep them home if they are ill.
