Police lay extortion charges after incident at downtown bank

Windsor police are investigating after a young person was forced by a stranger to withdraw money from a downtown bank.

Police were called to the downtown core around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Employees reported two people came into the business together and one of them appeared to be in distress.

Windsor police officials say when officers arrived, it was reported that the young person was brought into the bank under duress to withdraw money for the suspect. It was also reported the victim was threatened with violence during the course of the incident.

Police say the victim and the suspect were not known to each other.

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with extortion and possession of a prohibited weapon.
