Kingsville to discuss mandatory vaccination policy

Town councillors in Kingsville will talk about joining Windsor, Leamington, the County of Essex, and other cities across Ontario in mandating vaccination for its staff.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has recommended mandatory vaccine policies for all employers. A report to councillors also highlights the town's obligation as an employer to keep its workers safe from COVID-19.

The County of Essex imposed a deadline for its employees to get the shot last Tuesday, and officials told BlackburnNews.com over 98 per cent of workers complied.

The report suggests Kingsville set a deadline for workers to get at least their first shot of September 30. For both doses, it would be October 30.

All five hospitals in the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integrated Network are also imposing full vaccination on its staff, volunteers, contractors and students. Two of them have set deadlines. At Windsor Regional Hospital, employees have until September 22, or they will be placed on an unpaid two-week leave of absence. After that, they could be terminated. Chatham-Kent Health Alliance set a deadline of October 31.
