Improvements coming to Ward 10 trails

The final stage of $1.1-million improvements to trails connecting parks in Ward 10 will start soon.

Starting this month crews will build 400 metres of accessible multi-use trails in Langlois Court Park located on South Pacific Avenue, and a second 600-metre multi-use trail will be installed in the adjacent Southdale Park. This will nearly double the width of the current pathway, bringing it up to accessibility standards.

These trails are an extension of the new 660-metre multi-use trail that was built last year from Parent Avenue East to South Pacific Avenue in Langlois Court Parkette.

Once completed, residents will have 2.4 km of trails connecting Remington Park, Langlois Court and Southdale Park.

Ward 10 councillor Jim Morrison said he requested these improvements be included in the last budget after hearing from residents.

"It takes residents to push for these kinds of amenities, and I am really happy for all the neighbours to have this here," said Morrison.

In addition to the trail improvements, the project also includes improved lighting, benches, and drainage improvements. Around 150 trees were also planted between both parks.
