Motorcycle Ride raises $21K for Downtown Mission

An annual motorcycle ride has resulted in a big donation for the Downtown Mission.

Members of Crew 44, formerly the Sober Sons, presented on Thursday to the Mission a cheque for $21,247, the proceeds raised during the 13th annual On a Mission for the Mission motorcycle ride in late August.

The total amount raised over the 13-year history of the ride is now at over $116,000.

"This event is one we look forward to every year," said the Reverend Ron Dunn, Executive Director of the Mission. "It’s not only an important fundraising activity, it's also a lot of fun. Our staff and volunteers look forward to reconnecting with the motorcyclists who participate every year in a cause that is paramount to the Mission’s work."

Crew 44 event organizer Gary Boissonneault said the group has always enjoyed supporting the Mission over the years.

"We believe that the work that the Mission does is so important to the heart and soul of the City of Windsor," said Boissonneault. "The money raised through our Bike Nights and the Mission Ride is an opportunity for Crew 44 to give something back to our community, by supporting the Food Bank at the Mission in a meaningful way. No one should go hungry."

The money raised by the motorcycle ride will be used toward purchasing food for the Mission's various food programs.
