Man in custody after murder of Windsor woman

The Windsor Police Service has made an arrest after a woman was murdered on the weekend.

The Corporate Communications Unit reported police were first called to Elliott Street near McDougall Street around 5:30 p.m. Sunday for a weapons investigation.

When they arrived, they found a woman in the home, suffering from life threatening injuries. She was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A man was arrested outside the home.

Police have charged 29-year-old Ramadhan Nizigiyimana with first degree murder, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and failing to comply with a release order. The charges have not been proven in court.

Officers determined the victim and the suspect were known to each other and they are not looking for another suspect.

Investigators are asking anyone in the area with security cameras to check their footage for possible evidence that may help the investigation.
