Art fair to be added in downtown Windsor Sunday

Those in downtown Windsor celebrating Open Streets will have yet another thing to see and do.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) will hold the sixth edition of the Downtown Windsor Art Fair on Sunday, as part of Open Streets. The art fair will take place on University Avenue between Pelissier Street and Freedom Way, and on Ouellette Avenue between Riverside Drive and University Avenue.

DWBIA Chairman Brian Yeomans said the art fair adds another dynamic to Open Streets.

"Any community would be thrilled to have such an opportunity for artists, art lovers and collectors to engage with one another, and it’s no different for us here in the city centre," said Yeomans in a media release. "It’s such a joy for us to be able to promote such a diversity of local artists, artisans and crafters, giving them a space to share their talents, skills and crafts with people eager for something novel and noteworthy."

Sixty artists, craftspeople, and artisans will participate.

In addition, live entertainment will run Sunday afternoon during the art fair. On Ouellette Avenue between Riverside Drive and Chatham Street, Faking Requests with Mark Calcott will perform classic rock from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

On the stretch of Ouellette between Chatham Street and University Avenue, musician and puppeteer Matthew Romain will perform from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Starlight Aerial Company will have aerial demonstrations at 1 p.m., and the Coffee House Combo will entertain from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Complete information on Open Streets, along with the latest on street closures and bus detours, can be found on the City of Windsor's official website.
