Christmas festivities return to Amherstburg

The Amherstburg River Lights Winter Festival and Santa Claus Parade are back this year.

The River Lights Winter Festival kicks off on Saturday, November 20, with the Municipal Tree Lighting Ceremony and Fireworks. The event starts at 6 p.m.

"Amherstburg has always held that special charm during the holiday season," said Mayor Aldo DiCarlo. "Now more than ever, while we encourage masks and safe distancing, our outdoor winter events will be sure to add warmth and memories for family and friends at a time when we continue to observe safe measures."

The festival continues every evening until December 31 with hundreds of customized LED light displays in the town's two main parks, Toddy Jones Park and the King's Navy Yard Park. Merchants downtown will also light up their storefronts, encouraging residents to shop local.

The parade is a week later.

Starting at 6 p.m. on November 27, it will travel along Sandwich Street South to Richmond Street and Dalhousie Street.
