LaSalle officer, partygoer hurt in weekend melee

LaSalle police say two people were injured at a weekend house party, one of them a police officer.

Officers were called to a disturbance on Malden Road near Reaume Road at about 11 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found at least a hundred people attending a house party.

According to Senior Constable Terry Seguin, officers were in the process of breaking up the party when they were told about a fight that had just broken out. At that point, one person, bleeding profusely from the head, was helped out of the house.

One officer called an ambulance for the injured person. Another officer entered the house and was hit in the head with a piece of cement. Both the victim and the officer were treated in hospital for lacerations and released.

The person who allegedly threw the cement was identified. The Windsor resident was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and assault on a police officer.

The charges have not been proven in court.
