The number of active COVID-19 cases went up slightly after the Windsor Essex County Health Unit reporded 36 new cases Friday morning.
That brings the active number up to 193. Of those, 117 have been identified as a variant of concern.
The health unit also reported the death of a woman in her 60s. There have been 466 COVID-19 deaths in the community.
Local hospitals are treating nine patients who have tested positive for the virus. According to Windsor Regional Hospital, seven are unvaccinated and two are fully vaccinated.
To date, 85.9 per cent of eligible residents have received a single vaccine dose while 81.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.
Earlier this week, the provincial government expanded eligibility for booster shots. Anyone who is immunocompromised, is 70 years and older, or who received two doses of Astra Zeneca and received their second dose over six months ago is now eligible for a booster.
Staff are monitoring outbreaks at four workplaces, four schools, and four community establishments.
