The last time the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported more than 60 new cases of COVID-19, we had warm September weather, and residents hadn't yet voted in the federal election.
It reports 96 new cases over the past two days. There were 36 cases on Friday and 60 on Thursday.
Public health officials are investigating 36 infections. Another 32 are from close contact with another confirmed case, while 23 people caught the virus in the community, four are related to outbreaks, and one is travel-related.
There are currently 16 people in the hospital and 252 active cases across the region.
The health unit also released its weekly epidemiological summary Friday. It showed an increase in the number of positive test results, up 0.6 of a percentage point to 3.3 per cent, the seventh-highest in Ontario. However, the case rate per capita has dropped, to 33.3 cases per 100,000 people. Last week's per capita case rate was 39.3.
Five schools remain in an outbreak; Vincent Massey Secondary School, Margaret D. Bennie, Princess Elizabeth, Essex Public School, and Ecole elementaire Catholique Saint-Jean Baptiste.
There are also seven workplace outbreaks and six in the community.
Ontario reported four new deaths from COVID-19, 598 new cases, and 4,400 active ones.
