Police take four alleged drunk drivers off the road in 24 hours

Over the past two weeks, the Ontario Provincial Police in Essex County has charged nine drivers with driving impaired.

This past weekend, police charged drivers from Windsor, Leamington, Lakeshore, and Essex after four separate incidents over 24 hours.

Just before midnight on Friday, the OPP got a call about a vehicle in a ditch on County Road 11 in Essex, and when they got there, they found a 63-year-old Windsor man behind the wheel.

About 45 minutes later, another driver faces an impaired driving charge after a traffic stop on Erie Street South in Leamington. Once the officer realized the man had been drinking, he took a 23-year-old Leamington man to the detachment for a more conclusive test.

The third arrest was on Saturday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a building on Talbot Street North in Essex. That was just before 6 p.m. A 64-year-old woman faces impaired driving charges.

The final incident was just before midnight on Saturday.

A 52-year-old Lakeshore man was charged and issued a three-day driver's license suspension after a roadside test during a traffic stop on Talbot Street South in Essex.

All four have court dates in the Ontario Court of Justice.

Police remind the public to call 911 immediately if they suspect a driver on the road is impaired.
