The Municipality of Lakeshore is asking residents to stop using public parks as a yard waste dumping sites.
Over the past week, several yard waste bags have been disposed of in the parking lot of Leffler Peace Park.
"While the location is used for the collection of natural Christmas trees in late December and early January, it does not serve as a year-round location for organic waste," said the municipality in a media release. "The bags have not only reduced access and the number of available parking spots at the park, their cleanup has been costly."
While the town has received multiple requests for additional yard waste pickup days there have not been any scheduled for 2021.
Yard waste can be disposed of free of charge at the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority's Transfer Station #2 in Kingsville or at the Public Drop-off depot in Windsor.
Anyone with information related to the illegal dumping is asking to contact the Lakeshore OPP at 519-728-1810 or anonymously via CrimeStoppers at www.CrimeStoppers.ca or 1-800-222-8477.
