WECHU reports 107 new cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported an increase of 107 COVID-19 cases on Friday morning.

That brings the active number of cases up to 652.

Among the new cases identified on Friday, 26 are close contacts of confirmed cases, 15 were acquired in the community, two are outbreak-related, and one is travel-related. Health unit staff continue to investigate 63 cases.

Local hospitals are treating 39 patients who have tested positive for the virus. Windsor Regional Hospital has 30 patients in its care. Of those, 17 are unvaccinated and one is partially vaccinated. There are 10 patients with COVID-19 admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, six of whom are unvaccinated.

The health unit is currently monitoring 13 workplace outbreaks, 15 school or daycare outbreaks, three community outbreaks, and two long-term care or retirement home outbreaks.

To date, 82.7 per cent of the eligible population has received one dose of a vaccine and 77.8 per cent have had two shots. Over 65,202 people have gotten their booster shots.
