The holiday break just got a little nicer for skaters in the City of Windsor.
The City's recreation and culture department announced the opening of the ice rink at Lanspeary Park Sunday for free public skating and rentals, weather permitting.
Under the provincial government's current COVID-19 spacing guidelines, the rink will be operated at reduced capacity and by reservation only.
Reservations can be made by visiting the Active Windsor website, or by calling the central reservations line at (519) 255-1161.
Public skating is offered Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The rink will be closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Since space is limited for each reservation time, skaters are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before their time slot. Physical distancing is required while waiting to check in, and masks are required on the ice. Helmets are also encouraged. The Lanspeary Park washrooms will be open, but no other amenities will be available.
Rental times are also available at Lanspeary Lions Outdoor Rink. To check availability and book rental times at that location, please call 519-253-2300, ext. 2714.
The rink at Charles Clark Square in downtown Windsor is not ready. The City says once the weather cooperates, ice-making at that location will begin.
