WECHU reports three new COVID-19 deaths

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported three more COVID-19 related deaths and 115 new high-risk cases.

A man in his 70s and a man and a woman in their 90s passed away after testing positive for the virus. There have been 551 deaths connected to the virus since the start of the pandemic.

There are currently 1,179 known active cases, however, testing is currently limited to high-risk individuals only.

Local hospitals are reporting 72 patients admitted who have tested positive for the virus.

Windsor Regional Hospital has 54 patients in its care and 36 of them have been admitted to be treated for complications from the virus. There are 10 patients in the intensive care unit, seven of whom are unvaccinated and three are fully vaccinated.

Erie Shores Healthcare reports 14 COVID-19 positive patients in its care, half of them have been admitted to be treated for other ailments.

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare has only four COVID-19 positive patients in its care.

The health unit continues to monitor 74 active outbreaks in the community.

To date, 81 per cent of eligible residents have had two COVID-19 shots while 51 per cent of those 18 and older have had three.
