Windsor's Ward 3 councillor confirms the building that has been home to the Windsor Star since 2012 has been sold to the University of Windsor.
Rino Bortolin also confirmed the selling price was $6.7-million.
The Star was a tenant at 300 Ouellette Avenue. The daily paper moved its newsroom there a decade ago after the University bought its former building on the corner of Pitt and Ferry Streets.
So far, the University has not returned emails from WindsorNewsToday.ca asking what its plans are for the building, and Bortolin couldn't say but believed an announcement was coming.
Reporters at the Windsor Star have not worked out of their offices downtown since the beginning of the pandemic. They cleaned out their desks last month.
Bortolin said he hopes Post Media, the company that owns the Windsor Star, will maintain a presence downtown.
