The next municipal election is still months away, but Windsor's Ward 3 councillor is considering running for mayor.
Rino Bortolin said he still has a lot to consider before making his intentions official, including the impact on his family.
Bortolin was first elected in Ward 3 in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. He also made an unsuccessful bid for the Liberals that year, losing to the NDP's Lisa Gretzky in the provincial election.
He also successfully operated three local restaurants. The most recent, Rino's Kitchen, closed just before the pandemic.
The city councillor is known for butting heads with the current mayor on issues like funding for the arts and public transit.
Bortolin told WindsorNewsToday.ca the city needs to do more than talk about diversifying the economy, pointing to Windsor's untapped potential in arts and culture. He also believes the city needs to do more to help small businesses grow.
Mayor Drew Dilkens has not yet said if he plans to run for re-election.
The next municipal election is on October 24, 2022.
