Erie Shores Healthcare has promoted a long-time doctor to Chief of Staff.
Doctor Luther Heys will take over the role from Doctor Ross Moncur, who is retiring on Monday.
Heys has served as the Chief Medical Information Officer and a General Practitioner Anesthetist at the Leamington Hospital. Most recently, he played a crucial role in implementing the new electronic hospital information system.
"Doctor Heys has a strong understanding of our role as a community hospital," said Board Chair Kris Taylor.
In his new position, Heys will provide administrative oversight by ensuring physicians and physician learners have the appropriate credentials and follow the necessary professional standards of practice.
"This is a critical role at the hospital," said President and CEO Kristin Kennedy. "Beyond COVID-19, we have an ambitious plan to continuously improve the health care experience for the people and communities we serve."
Heys was trained and practiced in South Africa before moving to Canada. He has also worked in High Prairie and Vermillion, Alberta.
He will maintain his family practice in Kingsville with the Erie Shores Family Health Team and serve residents at the Chartwell Royal Oak long-term care home.
