Windsor police say an individual was arrested for dangerous driving near the Ambassador Bridge blockade.
Police tweeted that the male driver was arrested Wednesday evening for "driving in a manner that is dangerous to public safety."
"We urge everyone involved in the protest not to endanger members of the public or engage in illegal activities," a statement tweeted by the Windsor Police Service read.
A Windsor police staff sergeant told WindsorNewsToday.ca that it is not yet clear whether the man was a protestor or a member of the public. No other details about the accused, or the specific charge(s) laid have been made available.
Due to the ongoing trucker protest, the bridge remains restricted to a single northbound lane of traffic on Huron Church Road for emergency crews, while trucks can only cross into the United States using the Wyandotte Street West entrance.
During a meeting Wednesday afternoon, Windsor's mayor and police chief provided an update on the protests and stated officers are on the ground and negotiations with protestors is ongoing.
Police say no timeframe for a resolution is available. Mayor Dilkens said the blockade can only be solved with assistance from all levels of the government.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford weighed in on the blockades in both Windsor and Sarnia on Wednesday stating the province is on standby to assist. Meanwhile, Windsor-Essex MP and MPPs have condemned the protests with Windsor-West MP Brian Masse calling on the Liberals to establish a plan to have the protest come to a resolution.
As the protest continues, Windsor police say public safety remains a priority.
