The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported a pair of deaths from COVID-19 on Thursday.
A woman in her 50s and a man in his 80s passed away from the virus since the health unit's previous report on Wednesday. Both were from the community. This brings the COVID-19 death toll in Windsor-Essex to 572.
The number of patients hospitalized in the region has still not changed much. As of 5 p.m. Thursday, there was a total of 59 people being treated in Windsor-Essex's three hospital systems.
At Windsor Regional Hospital, there were 45 people admitted, with 22 of them having COVID-19 as the main reason. Twenty-four of those patients have been fully vaccinated, with the rest either not or partially vaccinated. Five patients are in the intensive-care unit, with all but one fully vaccinated.
Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare reported Thursday that the last active outbreak at the hospital was rescinded. Only one person is being treated there.
Erie Shores Healthcare had 13 COVID-19 patients, with 11 of them having the virus as the chief complaint.
The health unit reported 119 new high-risk cases Thursday, though due to current testing guidelines, that number may be low. There are 641 active cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex.
A total of 48 active outbreaks are being monitored.
