The number of COVID-19 patients in Windsor-Essex hospitals has stayed relatively level as the Omicron variant loosens its grip.
As of noon Friday, the total number of people in hospital being treated for the virus is 32. Twenty-six of those cases are at Windsor Regional Hospital, with 11 of them having COVID-19 as the main complaint. Fifteen of those patients have been fully vaccinated, and the rest of them only partially vaccinated or not at all.
Four people at WRH are in intensive care, and all except one were fully vaccinated.
The remaining six cases are at Erie Shores Healthcare, with three primarily receiving care for COVID-19. All except one of the patients at the Leamington hospital were fully vaccinated.
There were no active COVID-19 cases at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare reported Friday.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported a significant drop in active high-risk COVID-19 cases Friday, to 280. There were 78 new cases and no new deaths confirmed.
There are 26 active outbreaks still being monitored by the health unit, with 12 in the community, nine in long-term care facilities, four in workplaces, and one left in a hospital ward.
