Only a few days remain for Essex residents interested in serving on the town council to apply.
Applications for the vacant Ward 3 seat are currently being accepted, with a deadline of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, February 24.
Councillors agreed during a special meeting on February 7 to open the vacancy up for applications, after Steve Bjorkman was named deputy mayor. Bjorkman, in turn, succeeded Richard Meloche, who became mayor after the resignation of Larry Snively.
To qualify as an applicant for the council seat, a person must be 18 or older, be a Canadian citizen, live in or own property in the Town of Essex, or be the spouse of a resident or property owner; and not be prohibited from voting under any act, or be otherwise disqualified from holding a municipal office.
Applications can be made online, or in person at Essex Town Hall.
After qualified applications are received, Essex Town Council will meet in special session on February 28 at 5:30 p.m., to review the applications, hear any applicant delegates, and possibly name someone for the vacancy. The meeting will be streamed online via YouTube.
