This year's Hockey For Hospice tournament raised a record-breaking $482,618 for hospice care across Windsor-Essex.
"We are truly blown away," said Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Executive Director Nancy Brockenshire.
This year, almost 2,000 young hockey players took to the ice in over 237 games played at five different arenas across the region.
The tournament was planned for last December. It was rescheduled to the Family Day weekend.
The event was initially conceived as a skate-a-thon by founder Tim Beaulieu.
"Different families have different types of holiday traditions [and]for our family and friends, Hockey For Hospice has been a 25-year tradition," he said. "We are absolutely astonished at what these young hockey players have done in support of our community."
Over the past quarter-century, it has raised almost $4.2-million.
