Two Windsor men face multiple drug charges

A search by Windsor police has resulted in the arrest of two men and illicit drugs taken off the street.

The Windsor Police Drugs and Guns Enforcement (DIGS) Unit began a probe of possible drug trafficking in December 2021. During the investigation, a suspect and a residence on Henry Ford Centre Drive near Gino Marcus Park were identified.

On Friday, the suspect was spotted sitting in the passenger seat of a car near Tecumseh Mall. Members of the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) approached the vehicle in an attempt to take the suspect into custody. The suspect refused to get out of the car and tried to take off in it, hitting multiple police cruisers and an officer in the process.

The vehicle was reported stolen in January, according to Constable Talya Natyshak, with phony licence plates attached to it and stolen plates inside.

A warrant was obtained to search the Henry Ford Centre Drive house, and officers found 313 grams of fentanyl and 21 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $125,000.

Both suspects are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, as well as possession under $5,000.

Also, a 42-year-old Windsor man is charged with dangerous driving, assaulting a peace officer with a vehicle, and resisting arrest. A 40-year-old Windsor man faces two counts of fentanyl possession with intent to sell, cocaine possession with intent to sell, and failure to comply with a release order.

The officer who was hit with the suspect vehicle was not hurt, and the police cruisers sustained only mild damage.

The charges have not been proven in court.
