COVID-19 has claimed two lives in Windsor-Essex.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit said Tuesday afternoon that two men passed away from the virus, bringing the region's COVID-19 death toll to 583.
One was a man in his 80s living in the community, and the other a man in his 90s in long-term care.
The health unit reported 37 new high-risk cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, though that number could be an undercount due to current testing guidelines. The number of active high-risk cases has fallen, to 227 from 256 on Monday.
The number of COVID-19 patients in area hospitals is stable, with 30 admitted as of 2 p.m. Tuesday. Windsor Regional Hospital had 19 of those patients, eight of them primarily for the virus.
Twelve of those people were fully vaccinated. There are three patients in intensive care, with two of them either not partially-vaccinated.
Erie Shores Healthcare had four COVID-19 patients admitted, with two having the virus as the main complaint. Three of those people are fully vaccinated.
