UPDATE: Prescribed burn within Collavino Wetland on Thursday

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has postponed a prescribed burn within the Collavino Wetlands in LaSalle until Thursday.

It said the wind conditions would be more favourable.

A week after unfavourable weather conditions cancelled a prescribed burn within the Collavino Wetlands in LaSalle, the authority was going to try again on Thursday.

Prescribed burns are an effective way to remove dead vegetation, including Phragmites, so new growth can take hold. They are commonly carried out in the spring.

"Additional management initiatives, including subsequent herbicide application and water level manipulations, will be completed in order to restore this degraded wetland to a more healthy, diverse wetland ecosystem," read a release from ERCA.

Meanwhile, those in the west end of Windsor may see smoke this month as officials carry out prescribed burns in the Ojibway Prairie Complex. Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park and Black Oak Heritage Park will be closed at that time.

Residents living nearby should close their windows when smoke is in the air.

The City of Windsor has not released a date for those burns.
