Sunflowers to be planted throughout the region

Over 100,000 sunflowers will be planted throughout the Windsor region this spring in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

Shine Bright YQG has partnered with parks departments in the region and the Windsor Public Library to distribute the sunflower seeds as part of its Let Peace Grow campaign.

"It's very important that in these times of war, acts of peace matter, that planting gardens of peace matter, and that to create peace, these types of actions are what's needed to turn the tide of hate and violence in the world," said Edy Haddad from Shine Bright YQG.

Sunflowers will be available at all Windsor Public Library locations. The libraries will also have displays and resources to learn about Ukraine.

“WPL will do all we can to support Ukraine,” said WPL CEO Kitty Pope. “British Artist Martin Firrell stated that ‘the road to freedom is bordered with sunflowers’ and I am hopeful that the joy, happiness and independence represented by sunflowers, returns to Ukraine as soon as possible.”

Sunflower gardens will be planted in major parks like Jackson Park, Dieppe, and Coventry gardens.
