The Federal government is providing $2.5 million for businesses that suffered losses during the Ambassador Bridge blockade in February.
“During this time, many were forced to reduce hours or close their doors to ensure staff safety and the security of their businesses. This federal funding will support our local businesses as they recover from the impacts of the protests,” said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk.
Around 240 businesses could be eligible for up to $10,000 each.
"I'm really glad that they acknowledged that it wasn't just the businesses on Huron Church, but here on Sandwich Street, on University Avenue West and Wyandotte Street West, the businesses all around the west end have been impacted," said Ward 2 Councillor Fabio Costante.
The fund will allow businesses to recover costs such as those related to utilities, insurance, bank charges, loss of inventory, wages, rent, and other extraordinary costs related to the repair or protection of a business due to the demonstrations.
The money is being distributed through Invest WindsorEssex's Small Business centre. Applications can be made through its website.
