High school advisor charged with sexual assault

Windsor police have charged a high school advisor and local coach with sexual assault.

In March, it was reported that two people under the age of 18 were sexually assaulted in January. Investigators determined a man was communicating in person and through social media with both victims prior to the incidents.

Michael Hampden-Carter, 35, was arrested on Saturday and charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation. The charges have not been proven in court.

Police say Hampden-Carter worked for the Greater Essex County District School Board as an advisor at the high school level. Due to the nature of the role, he had involvement with multiple schools. He has also been a coach/mentor in the region's sporting community for several years.

Investigators believe there is a potential for further victims and encourage them or anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Windsor Police Service - Major Crime Unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
