Phase 1 of North Talbot reconstruction underway

Construction is underway on North Talbot Road between Howard Avenue and Southwood Lakes Boulevard.

This is the first phase of the project and will include the installation of new storm sewers and closing the ditches on both sides of the road to install sidewalks and bike lanes.

"Having bike lanes, sidewalks, more lighting is going to help to increase the safety in this corridor and that's something that the residents have been asking long before I ever came on council," said Ward 1 Councillor Fred Francis.

Work on this project has been underway since 2014.  Two public consultation sessions were held between February and June of 2014 to receive input from residents within the study area.

"It has taken us several years to get to this point, and I thank everyone involved, including the mayor, city council, city administration, and, most importantly, the neighbourhood residents," said Francis.

The $2.5 million project is expected to be done by June 2022.

In 2026, work is scheduled to be completed from Southwood Lakes Boulevard to Goldenwood Drive as part of the next phase of construction in this corridor.
