Work underway on new school in Kingsville

The Greater Essex County School Board says construction has begun on the new school in Kingsville.

The school board bought just over 25-acres of land on Jasperson Drive, near the Kingsville Arena, back in December 2019. Trustees approved the design in February 2021, and the tender was awarded to Fortis Construction last September.

When the $60-million school is complete, it will replace Jack Miner Public School, Kingsville Public School, and Kingsville District High School.

At capacity, it will house 1,789 students from kindergarten to grade 12 and 98 children in a licensed childcare centre.

The school board is holding what it calls a celebration of construction on Thursday morning with representatives from the Town of Kingsville and the Town of Essex.

Construction could take two years.
