Public board confirms lockdown lifted at Windsor school

An all-clear has been sounded after an incident at a Windsor elementary school.

The Greater Essex County District School Board confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a threat had been received that morning at Ford City Public School on Milloy Street near Bernard Road.

"Following protocols, the Windsor Police Service was contacted and an investigation was launched by officers at the school," read a notice on the school's webpage. "A lockdown was instituted, which did not permit anyone to enter or exit the school and all occupants were required to shelter in place."

Windsor police then confirmed that the threat could not be substantiated.

The lockdown was lifted after 35 minutes, and classes went on as usual Wednesday afternoon. As a precaution, students were kept indoors for the rest of the school day.

"We are grateful for the prompt and professional response by Windsor Police and their continued concern for the safety of our school community," read the notice. "These incidents can be upsetting for students and we will have social services staff available should anyone have the need to share their feelings."
