Bakery donates funds to Windsor Regional Hospital

Windsor Regional Hospital has a new pediatric dental x-ray machine thanks to a donation from a new local business.

Cobs Bakery opened in south Windsor in February and raised money for the new machine as part of grand opening celebrations.

"For us, it was a no-brainer to help the hospital and get involved with the community," said Co-Owner Sandra Janzen. "I myself was previously a fundraiser prior to this so supporting community and just making a difference and having an impact was important."

Cobs Bakery raised $8,000 to purchase the new x-ray machine.

The new device replaces a 20-year-old machine in the operating room. It is used daily to take x-rays while patients are sedated during procedures.

"It's been on the wish list for the dentists for a long time and for the surgeons and the operating room," said Jennie Trkulja, director of perioperative services at Windsor Regional Hospital. "Twenty years is a long time, most pieces of equipment last around eight to 10 years so this one has really exceeded its life."

At the end of each day, the bakery also donates all unused baked goods to the Unemployed Help Centre to give out at area food banks.
