Racist graffiti confirmed at Windsor Catholic school

The local English Catholic school board has reported that one of its elementary schools was hit by vandals Monday night.

Windsor police had responded to a call at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Elementary School on Capitol Street off Parent Avenue. Board spokesman Stephen Fields told Windsor News Today that police then alerted the security company.

"The vandalism consisted mostly of graffiti that was spray-painted on a number of exit doors, as well as a broken window," said Fields. "Much of the graffiti was racial and sexual in nature. Our Facilities Services department was on site first thing this morning removing the graffiti."

Classes resumed this morning following the Victoria Day long weekend.

Fields said the incident is a reminder that any form of graffiti or harassment is not acceptable on any of the board's properties.

"The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board strives to create environments that are free from discrimination and harassment and strongly condemns any acts of vandalism, especially those that are sexual or racial in nature, in the strongest possible terms," said Fields.

Anyone with information is asked to call Windsor police or Crime Stoppers.
