Loaded handgun found after Hwy. 401 crash

A Windsor woman faces charges after the Ontario Provincial Police found a loaded handgun while investigating a single-vehicle crash.

That's not all they found. Officers also found methamphetamine and cash.

The vehicle went off the road in Southwold Township in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 just before 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Southwold Township is between Dutton and London.

When police arrived, the driver tried to run, and there was a short struggle where an officer was injured. The OPP used a conducted energy weapon to subdue the suspect.

The officer was treated in the hospital and has since been released.

The 25-year-old faces impaired driving, drug trafficking, weapons offences, and charges for resisting a peace officer.
