City districting plans moving forward

The City of Windsor is starting to create plans to transform key districts in the community.

In total, $650,000 in funding has been approved to create conceptual plans that will identify theming opportunities in Sandwich Town, downtown Windsor, Ford City, Riverside, and Wyandotte Town Centre.

"Each of these distinct areas have their own unique characteristics and identity and different things that we can bring alive in those areas. That's what the theming and districting projects are all about is finding what's authentic, what's unique, and then making sure that we work in the community who lives in that area to bring alive the best parts and then hopefully unlock future economic development," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.

The City of Windsor developed a similar plan for theming the Walkerville area last year. Dilkens says that plan helped to unlock millions of dollars of investments.

A consultant will be hired to help develop these plans which will be presented to residents and businesses for feedback. Once a final vision is conceived, there will be further opportunity for community feedback before being implemented by city council.
