Production to pause next week at Windsor Assembly

Employees at Stellantis' Windsor Assembly Plant have been given unscheduled time off next week.

Unifor Local 444, which represents hourly workers at the plant, confirmed via its social media accounts that production at the facility will be paused the week of June 6.

The union said that employees should not report to work unless specifically asked to by their supervisor.

Widespread microchip shortages have plagued production at the plant, along with auto production facilities around the world, for over two years. These shortages have resulted in numerous shutdowns in Windsor.

The annual summer shutdown at the plant, which is used to retool the facility and prepare it for production of the 2023 models, has been reduced to one week this year, the week of July 4.
