Essex County drops masking mandates

When members of Essex County Council hold their meeting on Wednesday night, they'll meet for the first time in two years without wearing face masks.

The county is dropping masking mandates at most facilities, including libraries and the Essex Civic Centre.

The lone exception is at the Sun Parlour Home in Leamington. It's a long-term care home, and masks are still required to protect vulnerable residents.

Essex-Windsor EMS no longer have to wear masks in county buildings or vehicles. They will wear them if they are interacting with patients.

At the same time that it loosens those rules, a release from the county said it remains a mask-friendly environment.

"It is still prudent to wear a mask to protect yourself and others," read the release. "In all circumstances, members of the public are asked to respect the decision of those who choose to continue wearing masks."

The county said it would continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation locally and provincially. If needed, it will change corporate policy.
