Leamington Fire Services celebrates 150 years

Leamington Fire Services has plans to celebrate its 150th anniversary all summer.

The Municipality of Leamington announced it will hold a number of community-oriented events at different locations every Thursday until the start of September.

During the events, people will learn about fire safety and those interested will be allowed the opportunity to explore a firetruck and meet their local firefighters.

"We have really missed being able to interact with residents. There is no better way to keep fire safety top of mind, than firefighters being present in and around the community," said Fire Chief Andrew Baird. "We would like to thank our community partners who have invited us to their locations to continue to promote fire safety in Leamington."

Each event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various locations including:

• July 7 - Lakeside Marina Leamington, 90 Robson Road • July 14 - Real Canadian Superstore, 201 Talbot Street East • July 21 - Walmart, 304 Erie Street South • July 28 - Lakeside Marina Leamington, 90 Robson Road • August 4 - Canadian Tire, 262 Erie Street South • August 11 - Rona, 274 Talbot Street West • August 18 - Lakeside Marina Leamington, 90 Robson Road • August 25 - Real Canadian Superstore, 201 Talbot Street East • September 1 - Walmart, 304 Erie Street South

In addition to the community events, the Leamington Fire Hall, located at 5 Clark Street West, will be open on Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. throughout July and August. Visitors can come down to the station and explore the firetrucks and meet team members while learning about fire safety.

A more formal celebration will take place August 30, at between 2 p.m. During that event, attendees can meet Sparky the Fire Dog and watch the official push-in ceremony for Engine 144.
