A mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy at Windsor police has been lifted, at least for now.
In a tweet Thursday evening, Windsor police announced that it is suspending its mandatory vaccination policy for current staff members, effective immediately.
The tweet also indicated that those employees who were placed on leave because of non-compliance with the policy will be allowed to return to work.
No additional details were available as of Thursday night.
The Windsor Police Services Board voted in October 2021 to institute a mandatory vaccination policy, meaning employees must get a shot or face suspension. At the time of a deadline in late November, at least a dozen WPS employees were placed on leave for refusing to get the vaccine.

"All members of the Windsor Police Service are valued and respected and I recognize that many of our members have had to make a very difficult decision," said then-Chief Pamela Mizuno in a media release at the time. "I am confident that the level of service we provide our communities will not waver and that there is no concern to public safety."
