Solar lights installed in Calderwood Park

Calderwood Park is a little brighter on summer nights thanks to a grant and an investment from ward funds.

The park had 14 solar lights installed along a trail this spring with the help of Ward 9 Councillor Kieran Mckenzie’s ward funds and the CUPE Local 82 ward renewal grant. The project cost a total of nearly $20,000.

“I am thrilled to be the successful recipient of the 2022 Ward Renewal Grant. This program really demonstrates the commitment of our Outside Workers from CUPE Local 82 to the community. Calderwood Park is a popular neighbourhood destination; this investment is a wonderful enhancement to this space,” said McKenzie.

Each year CUPE Local 82 accepts submissions from councillors on projects that invest in parks or cultural infrastructure. The union selects one project a year to fund with the grant.

“As the outside workers for the City of Windsor our members take tremendous pride in the beautification and enhancement of our parks and our community generally. The Ward Renewal Grant is a further expression of that commitment from our members. As the workers responsible for maintaining this park we are delighted to support this project in Ward 9 as we know it will enhance the experience for residents, ” said Guy Ladouceur, treasurer for CUPE Local 82.
