Windsor man arrested following gun incident at park

Windsor police say a 22-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly brandishing a weapon over the weekend.

Officers were called to Mic Mac Park on the west end at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, on a report of people fighting and someone pulling a gun. It was determined that the suspect appeared at the park during a large gathering, got into an argument, and brandished a firearm.

According to Constable Talya Natyshak, the suspect knew the people at the gathering, and it was a targeted situation.

Despite limited cooperation from witnesses present, police were able to obtain a description of the suspect.

Investigators from the Emergency Services Unit found the man at around 10 p.m. Monday and arrested him without incident. The gun, however, was not recovered, and police are asking the public for help in finding it and turning it over to the police.

The Windsor man has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a handgun for a purpose dangerous to public peace, pointing a firearm at someone, uttering death threats, and possession of a firearm while prohibited. The charges have not been proven in court.

"Investigators believe there are several witnesses and the possibility of further victims that have not come forward to police," said Natyshak. "They are encouraging anyone with information to come forward. Investigators also believe there may be video evidence of the event and are encouraging anyone with footage to forward it".
